Katherine says “The music we make among ourselves is more important than the music
anyone, including me, tries to sell us.” She often invites audience participation in her
performances, and has also led group singing at settings from church to professional
development conferences to protest rallies and beyond.
From mid-June through early October, Sundays
at 7 PM, at the Community Church on Maine’s
Monhegan Island, she leads Songs of the Spirit,
a half-hour of group singing celebrating our
connection to that which is larger than our small
selves. Songs from any tradition are welcome –
bring one to share and come make a joyful
noise! If the Spirit moves, stick around for the
7:30 PM hymn sing, which Katherine also
facilitates.
During that season, she also fosters community
sharing of music and other artistic gifts as the
emcee of the Monhegan Jamboree, a biweekly
open stage (not exactly an “open mike” – no
electricity!) at the Monhegan Community
Church. You never know what may happen
there, but it's a good bet that Katherine will
lead a group song or two.
